Victoria plum
Victoria plum

Victoria plum

So sad to cut you down once lovely Victoria plum

Now withered and diseased, afraid your race is run

You were a symbol of our hopes twenty years ago

We had just moved in wasn't sure that you would grow

But you flourished every year, blossomed every spring

Not enough!  You seemed to say in autumn fruits I bring

But now the deed is done tangled branches on the lawn

One last gift for me, for tonight you will keep me warm.

Victoria was a faithful girl. Fed you plums in Autumn's world, Use the fire to roast marshmellows, and you will be a mellow fellow. Very fine poem, Colin! smiles, Carol

Sad, in a way, but well written - although I'd probably add a few more commas to assist understanding :} I remember taking down fruit trees - it was also necessary, and also sad.
